Yes. You bet it does. If you’ve ever used a search engine (google, bing, yahoo, etc.) think about your behavior. Say you type in: dentists in ‘my town’. What happens? Pages pop up – sometimes LOTS of them. Typing in dentists in my small city of 100,000 people pulled up 76,000 results. Sound crazy? I don’t know how many pages that equates to, but like most people, I’ll NEVER get beyond the first page.
In fact, in all likelihood, I won’t get past the first half dozen listings and probably won’t look any further than my screen is deep – on my laptop that’s about 7-8 listings. I’ll scan them all, but I’m inclined towards the ones at the top. Have you had this experience? Probably you have. What does it tell us?
That the people who get the business, the inquiries and ultimately the new patients have to be at the top of the search engines listings. Best to be at the top of the organic search listings. There are paid results and there are ‘organic’ results.
The paid results are often those 2 or 3 listings you see at the top of the page separate from the rest and then down the side of the page on the right (I’m talking google now, but it’s more or less the ubiquitous search engine and certainly valid for this discussion!).
The organic listings start below the few paid listings at the top and they are the ones that count. They are the ones most clicked on and viewed; they are the ones that are going to grab the lions’ share of visitors.
What that means, quite simply, is that’s where you want to be! No matter what. It’s precious real estate and like most precious real estate, there just isn’t that much of it….guess what else? Right now, it’s a veritable land grab. There are great and simple ways to get at the top and stay there. We can show you how – in fact that’s what we do best.
Want to do it yourself? It’s about Search Engine Optimization (SEO) and like most marketing; it’s a combination of art and science. It’s about knowing what your prospective patients are searching for and having those things on your site. Actually, that’s oversimplified, but these days, video is what gets you top ranking. Adding frequent new content in the categories your patients are looking for – information on implants, teeth cleaning, whitening, periodontal disease, etc. will also get you good rankings, if you use the ‘keywords’ appropriately. You can do some basic keyword research for free on google. Start there.
One of the reasons we so strongly recommend blogging is that it gives you a chance to showcase your knowledge, help people before they even meet you, build credibility and build traffic to your website so when they are ready and looking; people choose you as their dentist.
